カナダ大使館は、今日のトロントのアートシーンに大きな影響を与え、国際的に高く評価されているアーティスト10名の作品を集めた展覧会「Multi Layered Surfaces」を開催いたします。ご紹介するアーティストは、マシュー・カーヴァー、ヤニータ・エア、ダイアン・マリー、アレックス・マクロード、サーシャ・ピアース、カーティス・トルウェスト・サンティアゴ、ジョン・ササキ、武谷大介、ウィニー・トゥロング、ダグラス・ウォーカーです。
これらのアーティストはいずれも、パブリック・アートとコマーシャル・アートの両分野で長年にわたり活躍し、油絵から写真、デジタル作品まで、意欲的な新しい手法を取り入れています。彼らの作品は、現代社会における多様性の価値に焦点を当て、見る人にそれぞれの作品の奥にあるいくつもの意味を深く考え、読み取るよう促します。
本展覧会が、皆様とこれらの革新的なアーティストたちとの貴重な出会いの場になることを願っています。展示には、東京での初公開作品も複数含まれます。
尚、本展の関連企画で、トロントのアーティストをご紹介する展覧会が旧平櫛田中邸、若山美術館、NICA（Nihonbashi Institute of Contemporary Art）で開催されます。これらの展覧会にも、ぜひお出かけください。
The Embassy of Canada is pleased to present a unique exhibition of 10 internationally acclaimed artists who have significantly influenced today’s Toronto art scene: Matthew Carver, Janieta Eyre, Dyan Marie, Alex McLeod, Sasha Pierce, Curtis Talwst Santiago, Jon Sasaki, Daisuke Takeya, Winnie Truong, Douglas Walker.
The artists have been active in both the public and commercial art scene for decades and are known for using challenging new techniques, from oil painting to photo-based artwork and digital images. Their works reflect on the importance of diversity in contemporary society and Viewers are encouraged to dive and read into multiple meanings layered underneath the surface of each work.
Through Multi Layered Surfaces, we look forward to introducing a new audience to this innovative group of artists. The exhibit includes the Tokyo premiere of several new works.
In addition to the exhibit at the Embassy’s Prince Takamado Gallery, we encourage you to explore the satellite exhibitions featuring these Toronto artists at the former residence of Japanese legendary sculptor Denchu Hirakushi; Wakayama Museum; and Nihonbashi Institute of Contemporary Art (NICA).
