三瀬夏之介は、1973年 奈良県生まれ。1999年 京都市立芸術大学大学院美術研究科絵画専攻修了。2002年に星野真吾賞を受賞し作家としてデビュー、2006年に東京都現代美術館で開催された「MOTアニュアル2006　No Border 「日本画」から／「日本画」へ」にて注目される。2007年には五島記念文化財団研究員としてフィレンツェに滞在。帰国後は、東北芸術工科大学の教員として山形にて制作を続けている。三瀬氏が目指すのは「日本画」素材を用いた絵画の可能性である。従来分断され語られていた文化の境界を取り払うことを創作の主題にしている。

Natsunosuke Mise was born in 1974 in Nara, Japan. He is a painter currently based in Yamagata, Japan. He studied ‘Nihonga’ (Japanese painting) at the graduate school of Kyoto City University of Arts. Mise gained attention as a new-wave Nihonga (Japanese painting) artist at ‘MOT annual 2006 No Border: from “Nihonga” to “Nihonga” at the Contemporary Museum of Art, Tokyo and he has been active since then. Mise freely incorporates various materials and techniques such as acrylic paints and collage with traditional Japanese techniques and materials. By doing so, he makes motifs familiar to himself and motifs bearing historical feelings coexist in his paintings. His works have been praised for the strange and bewildering collage of the past and the present, and for the feeling of infinite expansion because of their enormous size.
